Leo the cat was around 10-12 years old when he was rescued from a difficult situation. He was severely neglected and left outside his home after his owner passed away.
A Good Samaritan, Louise, learned about his plight and sprang into action to save him. She was able to have the cat surrendered and took him to a veterinary hospital for immediate medical attention.
“Leo was incredibly emaciated, dehydrated, anemic from fleas, and had a broken tooth (and bad teeth). He was so matted that he had to be shaved,” Caroline Grace, founder of Baby Kitten Rescue shared with Love Meow.
“He was missing part of his right ear from an old injury and limping from an old, uncared for injury to his right leg.”
Despite it all, Leo was in good spirits and very forgiving, and continued to seek affection. Baby Kitten Rescue stepped up to support his medical care since no other rescue could take him, while Louise opened her home to foster him.
“We are going to do everything we can to give this sweet boy a happy, pain-free and loved rest of his life.”
Leo came out of his shell after a few days of adjusting back to indoor life. He preferred having his “safe” spot behind a chair, but whenever Louise entered the room, he came trotting right over to her.
“He started walking in between my legs and purring. He wanted all the love and followed me around like a puppy,” Louise shared.
After getting a full dental, Leo felt like a new cat. His appetite soared and he began playing like a kitten again. Missing a few teeth doesn’t slow him down at meal time. Leo loves food and tells his people all about it every day.
Louise woke up to Leo’s sweet meows at the crack of dawn asking for breakfast. He greeted her with head bumps and face rubs before making his way to his food bowl.
With his remarkable resilience and love for food, Leo is starting to fill out. His back leg has healed up nicely, and he is no longer limping.
“He has some tenderness from arthritis, so he saw our physical therapy vet who gave us some exercises to do with him daily. He will be receiving acupuncture next week to help,” Caroline shared with Love Meow.
“Leo is the sweetest, most gentle, and most loving boy. All he wants to do is rub on you and give you head bumps.”
He prefers having a quiet place all to himself without having to share with other pets. So last weekend, he moved in with foster volunteer Cindy whose home is all his now.
“We expected him to need time to adjust to a new environment, but within minutes, he was exploring all over his new home, giving Cindy head bumps, and purring up a storm. He is already loving it there.”
Leo has a lot of fattening up to do before he is ready for adoption. He fully revels in his new kingdom with his doting foster mom who caters to his every whim.
His morning routine continues as he gives Cindy the sweetest meows to start her day before he heads over to clean up his food bowl.
“He loves cuddling and watching TV with his foster mom and has even started purring when he sees her.”
“His resilience and unbreakable sweet spirit is an absolute inspiration. Despite everything he’s been through, Leo is just a big mushy ball of love,” Caroline shared.
“I’m so happy we get to give this sweet boy a second chance at a safe, loved, and happy life.”
