“Sora abruptly stopped in front of a young man sitting by his tent,” Colzouti recalled. “Their eyes met, and Sora eagerly leaped forward to greet him. Instinctively, burdened by my preconceived notions, I held Sora back. I acknowledged the man and decided to leave, but Sora refused to budge. He gazed at Bruno. Despite calling him back, he wouldn’t move. Eventually, I attached his leash and attempted to nudge him away, but Sora looked at me with a gaze that only a dog can muster. Bruno responded with a warm, heartfelt smile.”

This tender moment marked the beginning of a remarkable journey.

Moved by his dog’s empathy for a man facing adversity, Colzouti found his own heart opening up in compassion.

“In that instant, I grasped two profound truths: That my dog and a stranger had everything to teach me about loving your neighbor,” Colzouti penned. “And that I would do whatever it took to express my gratitude to this stranger for imparting such an invaluable lesson.”

Alongside the constant love and companionship from Sora, Colzouti offered Bruno food, clothing, and support in rebuilding his life.
