Astounding climbing skills of a pet feline leave social media in awe. /vol

Cats love climbing, but this moggie in China has taken her passion to the next level.

Qiqi, a three-year-old British shorthair, has been dubbed the ‘spider-cat’ by amused Chinese netizens after the agile feline was filmed effortlessly scaling a wall like a professional mountaineer.

The pet owner, Ms Luo, told MailOnline that her cat had always been a keen climber who enjoyed spending her days leaping up and down.

Ms Luo, a high school teacher, captured the amusing scene earlier this month at her home in Leshan city, southwest China’s Sichuan province.

The owner told MailOnline that her three-year-old British shorthair had always loved climbing.

‘Qiqi loves climbing the walls, the doors. Wherever is the highest, she would try to get up there,’ Ms Luo said.

At first, Ms Luo would carefully watch Qiqi climb, worried that the moggie would accidentally fall.

But the furry athlete never failed to impress the owner with her nimble paws.

Ms Luo then began sharing clips of Qiqi’s ‘mountaineering expeditions’ online before one of the videos became trending on Douyin, China’s TikTok-like platform.

Millions of social media users were impressed by the agile British shorthair, jokingly dubbing her the ‘spider cat’.

One of such commenters exclaimed: ‘Is she the cat version of the Spider-Man? Spider-cat?’

Another amused netizen likened the moggie to a reptile: ‘Are you sure I’m not watching a lizard climbing down the wall?’

Others appeared to be more concerned with the owner’s furniture: ‘I feel bad for the wallpaper. It must’ve been all damaged now.’

Cats are built to be effective climbers. The muscles in their hindquarters and back are extremely strong, allowing them to leap several feet in any direction.

A cat’s claws are perfect for providing the grip and leverage they need when climbing up a vertical surface such as a tree. They can get from bottom to top in a matter of seconds.

Occasionally, a moggie might misjudge the distance, but most of the time, they would land softly and soundly.

Qiqi might have been skilled enough to climb up anywhere she wants, but not for Mi Bu, another British shorthair who saw his ‘jailbreaking’ mission sabotaged by a naughty furry friend.

In a trending clip. the feline living in south China’s Guizhou province is seen struggling to climb over a pet gate while being held down by his buddy, a Shiba Inu called Mi Yuan.
